Rajasthan has large deposits of both
metallic and non-metallic minerals. It is the
second largest mineral-producing State in India.
Sixty-five types of minerals are found in Rajasthan.
There are 1,310 mining leases in respect of
major minerals and 32,420 mining leases and
quarry licenses for minor minerals.
Large deposits of copper, iron ore, manganese,
tungsten and pyrites are located in the State.
It is the third largest producer of limestone
in the country and Rajasthan is the only source
of steel melting grade limestone in the country.
It contributes significantly to the country's
production of ceramic minerals and accounts for
large proportions of the country's production
of mica, feldspar, silica sand and phosphorite.
Building stones, dimensional and decorative stones
like sandstone, marble, kota-stone, and variously-coloured
granite are produced in large quantities in the
State.
The Aravallies Belt in Rajasthan is host to
a number of major base metal deposits, including
the world class, open pit deposit of Rampur Agucha
(62 Mt @ 13% Zn and 2% Pb resource). The Khetri
deposit in Western Rajasthan contains 24 Mt @
1.2% Cu and 1.5g/t Au.
